#15 David Gilmour's Black Strat


Coming in at #15 is Pink Floyds long time guitarist David Gilmour and his 1969 Black Strat. Also a recent reissue by the Fender Custom Shop. For 5 grand you can own a copy of this historic strat.

#14 Jimmy Pages Gibson EDS-1275 Double Neck


No list would be complete without Jimmy Pages Gibson EDS-1275 Double Neck. Yep yhis is the one he uses on stairway to heaven among other zep hits. Currently being reissued by Gibson and avaialble at the Guitar Center.

#13 Brian May's Red Special


Coming in at #13 is Brian May's Red Special. This historic home made guitar should be considered priceless. Made with his dad this guitar covers four decades of music.

#12 Eddie Van Halens Frankenstrat


When eddie Van Halen hit the music scene in the late 70's He almost single handely changed the way elctric guitar would be played for a generation. His home made guitar incorporated a strat style body with a double humbucker pickup.

#11 Eric Claptons 61 Gibson SG "Fool" Guitar


Up at #11 is Claptons 61' Gibson SG. This is the one you can hear on many Cream tunes including Deserali Gears. Painted by The Fool, a Dutch group of artists, Simon and Marijke.

Rounding out the top 10 is Stevie Ray Vaughans #1 Strat. This was Stevies favorite ax. Was also produced by Fender as a commemerative guitar. Said to be a mixture of strat parts (frakenstrat) altough the body is a 63. Rumored to be currently locked in a vault by brother jimmie.

#9 Buddy Holly's 1958 Stratocaster


This 58 Strat deserves a place on the top 10. Although a few of his first strats were stolen this piece of early rock history can be seen at Lubbocks Buddy Holly Center.

#8 Chuck Berry's 1956 Gibson ES-350TN


Coming at #8 is the Father of rock and roll Chuck Berry and his 1956 Gibson ES-350TN . This is the guitar that helped put rock and roll on the map. Although he is more associated with the Gibson 330 series guitars it was this one he used in those early recordings.

#7 George Harrisons Gretsch 6119 Tennessean


Another Beatles makes it into the top 10. This semi hollowbody guitar saw lots of action in the early 60's and was reportably used on the abbey road sessions. The whereabouts historic guitar are unkown and chance are it has been stolen. Please check your local pawn shops!

#6 Eric Claptons Brownie


In at #6 is another of Claptons Guitars known as "Brownie" used in arguably the greatest rock record of all time "Layala and other assorted love songs" need I say anymore? Sold for $450,000 at auction and was the highest price paid for an electric till "Blackie was sold. (see below).

#5 Jimi Hendrix Woodstock Strat


This historic 1968 strat played by Jimi at Woodstock comes in at #5. Although Jimi owned many guitars I think this would qualify as his most impotant. Currently owned and on display at EMP Museum in Seattle, Washington.

#4 Jimmy Pages Les Paul


This famous Les Paul used by Jimmy Page of the iconic Led Zeppelin also refered to as #2 comes in at #4. The 1959 Gibson reportedely purchased from Joel Walsh in the early 70's became Jimmy's main ax and can be seen used through his entire career in studio and live.

#3 Eric Claptons "Blackie"


This piece meal strat played by Clapton mainly throughout the 70's oozes what a valuable guitar really is! Used on most of his most important works and used live this guitar also earns the top spot for value as the strat brought in a record $959,500 at auction in 2004. 461 Ocean Blvd and Slowhand among others were recorded with this ax.

#2 - John Lennon's 58' Rickenbacker 325 Capri


Next up most valuable guitar also comes from the Beatles. Yep this is the one that John Lennon brought up with him from the early Hamburg days to the metoeric rise of the Beatles. Seen on the Ed Sullivan shows and used for recording all the way up to the double fantasy album. This is another instrument that you wont see on the auction block anytime soon. Currently owned by Yoko and on display at the Beatles museum in Japan.

Paul McCartney's Hofner Bass


#1 on the List is Paul McCartney's Hofner Bass. Sorry to disapoint the guitar players out there but this has to be by far the most valuable electric guitar. This bass has been used by this icon almost through his entire career. I would say that this instrument should be considered "priceless" I would think that this instrument would break all records if brought to auction. Not only was this bass used on many of the beatles first albums but it was also brought on tour.
